Interrupting Appropriately

 

  1. If you must interrupt a person’s conversation or phone call, stand where you can be seen.
  2. Wait for that person to acknowledge you or signal for you to come back later.
  3. When it’s time for you to speak, begin with “Excuse me for interrupting, but…”
  4. Be specific and to the point with your request or information.
  5. Thank the person for his or her time.
